I am arriving here about 70 days too late.

Laid off in Dec. 08 after 5 years in a Senior Manager position at a great company.  In 24 years I have been at 5 employers, one for 10 years and felt even in this 8% unemployment economy, and with my network I would be out of work no longer than a few weeks.

Since discovering, reading and listening to MT last week, I now find myself doing all the right stuff the wrong way.  I got an interview within a month of that layoff (through a Contingency Recruiter) for a Division VP Position and thought I did well, but no call back. Recruiter says "lack of Chemistry, maybe".  I now know why, bad handshake, leaned back in my chair, gave long Epistle answers, you name it, I did it wrong but was completely oblivious to their effects.

I have had almost daily contact with tag team and sub-sub recruiters as my resume' has good content/accomplishments(ahem... 4pages) but very little real interview action.  I did have a 2nd interview where I told the Recruiter dont send me in for a position that was 15 years behind my capabilities, but he did and that Company knew I would be a temporary hire no matter how much I committed energy and enthusiasm for a job well below my Quals.  But hey, I gotta feed my kids.

I now have begun to renovate my approach/resume' in the last week since discovering the wealth of info from Mark/Mike here, and I am re-energized, locked and loaded.

Someone out there needs me, they just havent found me yet.

PS. I have been here almost half a Century, (whoa) if anyone needs a connection in Tampa Bay area, there is a good chance I have some, feel free to contact me.

Welcome to the forums, Dave.
We can only the change the future.  Sounds like you're doing just that, which is great.
There are a lot of smart folks here who've helped me and others, and having another experienced manager  is a real plus!
Good luck, and please join the conversations.
Sincerely,
John Hack
